How a connector works
A connector holds no chat code at all. It stores one value — your widget ID — and quietly loads your helper from our servers after your page has finished drawing. That is why it can't slow your site, can't break your theme, and never needs updating: improvements arrive on our side.
This code is locked to your account and only runs on the website registered to it. Pasted on any other site, it simply won't load.
We can't guarantee the self-paste installer, sending the code to your web person, or any other do-it-yourself method will work on every site — themes, builders and security plugins differ. We don't take responsibility for code that a third party pastes, edits or removes. If the widget never registers on your site, you get your $119.99 install fee back — no questions asked.

WordPress

A free plugin with one field. Paste your widget ID, save, and the chat button appears on every page — no theme files touched.
- Download the plugin below (a .zip file — don't unzip it).
- In WordPress: Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin → choose the file → Install Now → Activate.
- Go to Settings → RetainLeads.
- Paste your widget ID, tick “Show the chat button”, and Save.
- Reload your site — the chat button is in the corner.
If a security plugin blocks outside scripts, allow retainleads.com in its settings. Clear any caching plugin after saving.
WooCommerce
No permission needed — the smart assistant code can still be copied and pasted in by hand.
WooCommerce runs on WordPress, so the same free plugin covers your store. One field, no theme edits.
- Download the plugin below (a .zip file — don't unzip it).
- In WordPress: Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin → Install Now → Activate.
- Settings → RetainLeads → paste your widget ID → Save.
- Open a product page and check the chat button is in the corner.
Shopify
No permission needed — the smart assistant code can still be copied and pasted in by hand.
A Shopify app with a native on/off switch. You flip it on in the theme editor — nobody edits theme code, and uninstalling removes it completely.
- Install RetainLeads Chat from the Shopify App Store (link appears here the day it's approved).
- Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds → turn RetainLeads chat on.
- Paste your widget ID into the block's setting and Save.
Until the app clears Shopify's review, use the paste route: Online Store → Themes → ⋯ → Edit code → layout/theme.liquid → paste the line just before </body> → Save.
Wix

A Wix App Market app: paste your widget ID on one screen and Wix puts the chat button on every page for you.
- Install RetainLeads Chat from the Wix App Market (link appears here once approved).
- Paste your widget ID on the app's settings screen and Save.
- Publish your Wix site.
Until it's approved: Settings → Custom Code → + Add Custom Code → paste the line → All pages → Body – end → Apply → Publish.
Webflow

A Webflow app that writes the script into your site settings for you, so you never open the custom-code box.
- Install RetainLeads Chat from the Webflow Marketplace (link appears here once approved).
- Paste your widget ID and Save.
- Publish your site.
Until it's approved: Site settings → Custom code → Footer code → paste the line → Save changes → Publish.
Squarespace
No permission needed — the smart assistant code can still be copied and pasted in by hand.
Squarespace hand-picks the add-ons in its Extensions marketplace, so for now it's a two-minute paste in your own settings.
- Settings → Advanced → Code Injection.
- Paste the line into the Footer box.
- Save, then reload your live site.
Code Injection needs a Business plan or higher. We've applied to the Extensions marketplace; when we're in, this becomes a one-click install.
Weebly
No permission needed — the smart assistant code can still be copied and pasted in by hand.
Weebly has no app store for this, so it's a short paste into the footer code box — it then applies to every page.
- Settings → SEO → Footer Code.
- Paste the line and Save.
- Publish, then reload your live site.
GoDaddy
No permission needed — the smart assistant code can still be copied and pasted in by hand.
GoDaddy's builder has no app store for site-wide code, so you drop it into an HTML section in the footer.
- Edit site → add a section in the footer → HTML / Embed.
- Choose Custom code and paste the line.
- Done → Publish.
It must be the HTML / Embed section — a text block strips code. Older GoDaddy plans without HTML/Embed can use your universal chat link instead.
Other / custom HTML

Ghost, Kajabi, Duda, BigCommerce, a hand-built site — anywhere you can add code before </body> works exactly the same.
- Find the site-wide code box: “Custom code”, “Embed code”, “Footer scripts” or “Tracking code”.
- Paste the line into the footer / body-end slot and apply it to all pages.
- Save, publish, then reload your live site.

Do I need to know any code?
No. On WordPress and WooCommerce you upload a plugin and paste one ID. On the platforms without a plugin yet, you paste one line into the footer box your builder already has — and if you would rather not, we install it for you.
Will a connector slow my site down?
No. Every connector loads the same single async script after your page has already rendered. There is no extra code, no tracking library and no render blocking.
What happens if I uninstall it?
It disappears completely. The connectors only ever print one script tag and store one setting, so removing the plugin or app leaves your site exactly as it was.
Do I have to update the connector when you improve the widget?
Never. The connector holds no widget code — it points at your account on our servers. Change your colors, answers or phone number in your dashboard and your site updates instantly.
My host blocks outside scripts. What now?
Allow retainleads.com in your security plugin or Content Security Policy. If you are not sure how, send us the site and we will do it as part of the done-for-you install.
